Charlie Rivel Jr
After years of terrorizing here classmates with constantly recurring performances, Maria started her show business career when she began to dance and later on went to a four year entertainer art school. Dancing was Maria’s major interest and with Charlie Rivel Jr she performed in many productions including her debut performance on TV at The China Theatre in Stockholm during its reopening night in 1982.
During her years at the entertainer art school, Maria met a happy group of musicians with whom she formed a band called Kaosorkestern. Kaosorkestern was one of the most ask for cover band in Sweden during 1989 - 1993. The band did a couple of tours together with Sven Melander and Åke Cato (en TV fri kväll 1989) and was the house band between 1990-91 for a famous show at the Stockholm nightclub Tyrol called Lorry. Maria got good use of her entertainment training when she stepped in for one of the actors who got sick in the middle of the show. Maria left the band in 1993 but made a short comeback when the band toured with Jan Johansen a few years later.
Peters pop squad
During the time Maria travelled around the country with Kaosorkstern she also started a joint venture together with Peter and Nanne Grönvall. Their first band was called Peters Pop Squad and had five members - Peter, Nanne, Maria, Torbjörn Stener and Cecilia Ringqvist. The band produced and released two singles in 1990, one with Dieter Dirks Studio in Köln, Germany, and one in a studios in Skara, Sweden. Soon after, the band split up but Maria, along with Nanne and Peter, decided to push forward and formed a new band–One More Time.
One More Time
In 1992 - One More time released their first single called "Highland" which was a huge success. The record was in the top ten charts in many countries of Europe. The Band was voted “Band of the Year” in Belgium 1992. The record sold gold in South Africa. "Song of Fête", One More Time’s second record, didn’t become as successful as “ Highland”, but Maria thought that it was with this record O.M.T got their special sound. During 1995 the group took a break and wrote a song together for the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest. The song was preformed by Cecilia Wennersten and it became an Evergreen.
Laterin that year the song won the Grammy award. This experience was great fun and O.M.T took part themselves with the song "Den Vilda" the following year of the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest. This time they won and also received a contract with Sony Music. Their victory led to a Swedish representation at the in Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo 1996. Here they ended up with a respectable third place finish. Up to this date - O.M.T had produced four records and eleven singles.
Maria participated in the Swedish Eurovision song contest three times. First she did it solo in 1992 with the song "Vad som än händer". With this song, she ended up in third place. In 1995 she worked together with Nanne and Peter and produced the song "Det Vackraste" performed by Cecilia Wennersten. The song ended up in second place. In 1996 “One More Time” competed with the song called "Den Vilda" and won the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest and represented Sweden in Oslo the same year in the Eurovision song contest. Maria´s last appearance in this contest was in 2003 when she helped Nanne as a background vocalist in the song "Evig kärlek". However, the song didn’t finish well and was eliminated from the contest.
In 2003 Maria released her first single "Head over heels" as a solo artist with the record company Somco. (Peter and Nannes record company). This was her first own composition – both music and lyrics. The song was played frequently on the radio and gave Maria the taste and the strength to try her wings as a solo artist.
Maria’s musical heart has always been close to heavy rock music. In 2005, she started her journey towards this type of music with an invitation from Christian Rivel, owner of Rivel Records, to participate in his latest production "Devine Fire". The record was released in Europe and in Japan. In this production, Maria makes a stunning duet together with Thomas Vikström (ex-CANDLEMASS ), and Christian Rivel (Divine Fire, Narnia) in the QUEEN classic "The Show Must Go On". Maria is now a part of the new heavy metal band MISTH.
